The design

NOT YOURS. on a single line across the back of one thigh, in black flock capitals on sheer black 30 denier. Two words and a full stop, no elaboration, no invitation to discuss it. The lettering sits low enough that a mini hem falls above it rather than across it, which puts the whole statement behind you — read in a queue, on a dance floor, on the way out of a room. This design has the highest repeat-purchase rate of anything we make. It tends to get bought shortly after a conversation the wearer did not enjoy having, and it is worn as a way of not having that conversation again.

How to wear it

Strongest with the simplest outfit in your wardrobe. A plain black mini and a plain black top, so nothing competes with the only thing on you that has an opinion. Combat boots or heavy flats rather than anything decorative. The lettering is raised flock rather than screen print, so it holds a little texture in low light where a flat print would go dead, and because the fabric is sheer the black reads against the skin underneath — nearer a tattoo than a slogan. A long coat gives you the version where the words appear and disappear as you walk, which is a slightly better joke than the static one.

Fit & sizing

One line on the back of the thigh, low enough to clear most mini hems, so leg length mainly changes how far below the hem it lands. M fits US 4–8, L fits US 10–14. Between sizes, choose L — the letterforms are cleanest when the fabric is not stretched to its limit.

Fabric & care

• Fabric: sheer black 30 denier nylon blend with elastane. Lettering is black flock — raised and faintly velvet to the touch, not screen print.
• Washing: hand wash cool and hang dry. In a machine, use a mesh bag on a cold delicate cycle.
• Never tumble dry. Heat is what lifts flock lettering off the fabric.
• Putting them on: take rings off first, then gather each leg from ankle to thigh and roll upward rather than pushing your toes through.
